Bus Stop
Club
Bus Stop is Battersea’s latest club addition, bringing a funked up disco fever and some pure soul sounds to the Battersea Club SW11, and better still; all the money raised goes to charity.
The night is the brainchild of Nick Martin who conceived BUS STOP after an evening out in local Camberwell.
“I went to the Funky Monkey and just loved the music. I ended up chatting with the DJ (Darren) who has the most fantastic collection of soul, funk and disco vinyl. A lot of people think they’re DJs, when in fact; they’re just blokes playing records. It was obvious to me that Darren was the genuine article.
He has an uncanny ability to mix across genres in a way that somehow makes sense; The Fatback Band, Marlena Shaw, Bill Withers, Prince, Eta James, Sister Sledge and Kylie came tumbling out of the speakers without a seam.
The music stayed with me. There’s nothing like it in Battersea so I set about persuading Darren to do a night over here. The Battersea Club seemed the perfect venue. It’s unpretentious, friendly, fun - and something of a secret.”
When Nick’s friend came to him asking him for some help to raise money for an orphanage she runs in Vietnam, he decided to put the two elements together and created the only non profit club night in Battersea.
If you need to escape from the packed bars and sleazy clubs around Clapham, and you don’t fancy traipsing into town, Bus Stop is the place to be. Playing great music, a dance floor that’s big enough to boogie on, and a late night bar serving cheap drinks it has all the ingredients for a great night out.
